2012 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

 

Make sure to mark your calendars so you don't miss these great events.

April 29th 2:00pm - 50+ Golden Wedding Anniversary Celebraztion - Calvary Lutheran Church in WatsekaThis celebration is free of charge for any Iroquois County couple who will be married 50 years this year or more than 50 years.  This year's theme is a 50's theme so wear your poodle skirts, saddle shoes, and bobbie socks.  We would like eveyone to bring their wedding picture if you have one.  There will be refreshments, entertainment and fellowship.  Please call the Museum so we can make plans.

In honor of the 150th Anniversary of the American Civil War and Iroquois County's participation, the Iroquois County Historical Society will be sponsoring several Civil War related events this summer.  See Below for the schedule.

May 1 - Civil War displays will be open at the Museum between the normal business hours of 10am-4pm Monday-Friday. 

May 5 - The Museum and Genealogy will be open on the 1st Saturday of each month starting on May 5.  Hours are 10am-2pm.

June 2 -- Flea Market on the south grounds of the Museum.  8am-2pm.  Anyone willing to donate items to this fundraiser can drop them off during regular business hours.

June 10th  1:30pm. - "Fall in" - 76th Illinois Infantry Regiment in the Civil War - Greg Ikins

This will be an interactive discussion on Iroquois County's involvement in the Civil War, with special emphasis on the 76th Regiment of the Infantry which was composed mainly of men from Kankakee and Iroquois Counties.  

 

June 23-24 - 12th Annual Garden Walk and 2nd Annual Garden Faire.    The gardens are in the Gilman/Danforth area this year.  The Garden Faire will be held inside and on the grounds of the Parker School in Gilman.  "Goody Bags" will be passed out to each person buying a garden walk ticket.  If you or your business would like to donate promotional items for the "Goody Bags", please contact the Museum.  This is a great way of inexpensive advertising. Raffle Prizes will also be given away, make sure to get your ticket stamped at each of the gardens.

 

June 26 (Tuesday) - Monical's Pizza Day fundraiser for the Museum.  Monical's will donate 20% of your total bill to the Museum.  Please pick up a form at the Museum or download one online at www.monicalspizza.com and enjoy some Monicals' Pizza while helping the Museum raise money.

 

June 29 - Woodworth Fish Fry sponsored by the Historical Society held at the Legion Park Building.  Meals are $8.00.  Carryouts available at 4pm and 5pm for dining in.

 

4th of July Non-Event Fundraiser  -  Please help by donating to our Non-Event Fundraiser.  This annual event has helped raise money for restoration and repair

 

July 15th  1:30pm  - "Maritime Disasters" & "Civil War Ghosts and Legends" - Don Goin

Don Goin, a member of the Kankakee Valley Civil War Roundtable and former resident of Iroquois County, will talk on Maritime Disasters.  Following his presentation, Brian "Fox" Ellis with the Illinois Humanities Council Roadscholars, will present "Civil War Ghosts and Legends."  His appearance is courtesy of a grant for the Illinois Humanities Council.

August 26th All Day Event - Furlough From Camp Worchester, 76th Illinois Infantry in Middleport (Check back for an update on times)  

This will be a Civil War Living History presentation on the grounds of the Old Courthouse.  This is intended to mirror actual historic events that took place in August of 1862.  Participants will portray soldiers of the 76th Regiment on furlough before being sent south.  Activities include breakfast, church service, knapsack inspection, drill, and interaction with the crowd.  The Living HIstory will conclude with a march to the GAR cemetery on the east side of town for a memorial ceremony.
